There can be a lot of reasons why a player would leave and enter the portal. Playing time is the usual suspect. But the old loyalties also don’t work anymore. Everything today is ruled by the size of the NIL a program can offer. The downside of a coaching staff being really good at development is that those same players will be poached by other teams. Former 5 star recruit Quincy Porter announced he'd be entering the Transfer Portal after his true freshman season in Columbus. Coming out of High School, Porter was the 22nd ranked player in the Country and the 3rd ranked wide receiver in the class. The Buckeyes lost out on a player who would have had a big impact next year.
